The Endurance the lost vessel of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton was found at the weekend at the bottom of the Weddell Sea. Endurance was the three-masted barquentine in which Sir Ernest Shackleton and a crew of 27 men and one cat sailed for the Antarctic on the 19141917 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition.

Endurance did not reach land and became trapped in dense pack ice and after they were stuck in the ice for 10 months the 28 men on board were forced to eventually abandon ship. The ship was crushed by sea-ice and sank in 1915 forcing Shackleton and his men to make an astonishing escape on foot and in small boats. 2 days agoThe site of Endurance was declared a historic monument under the terms of the 1959 Antarctic Treaty.
Three years later she was crushed by pack ice and sank in the Weddell Sea off Antarctica. An expedition team of 64 people plus a crew of 46 were on board the expedition ship the SA. Video of the remains show Endurance to be in remarkable condition.
